Yankee Notions by Anne Chislett

It's the tumultuous year following the Mackenzie rebellion, and the future of Canada is at stake. So are the lives of Maria Wait's husband and Sarah Chandler's father, two "rebels" and pawns in a dangerous political game. With nothing in common but a quirk of fate, the young women are at daggers as Sarah chooses to save her family while Maria battles for her country. Yankee Notions is the often comic, sometimes tragic story of how ordinary people cannot overcome the might of power and privilege until they learn to join forces.
