Beth and Margaret are two unmarried middle-aged sisters who live together. They are about to meet Ian, the son Beth gave up for adoption, as well as Fiona, his fiancé, who organized the reunion. The young couple is coming to spend the weekend. Beth is ecstatic, but Margaret finds the reunion a bit fishy. As they get to know the couple, they discover that Ian was raised by loving parents. Fiona, on the other hand, was abandoned by her neglectful parents and raised in foster homes. As the story unfolds, it becomes obvious that Fiona has no real interest in the reunion. She is there to extract money from Beth, and she has Ian wrapped around her little finger. The story takes an unexpected turn when Fiona discovers that Beth has no money. Close ties are then broken, and new ones are created, but not between those initially concerned.
