Morrissey by Peter Weston

Morrissey is a fast paced office comedy about the heroes and odd balls tasked with securing the approvals for the controversial of controversial land use permissions, assisted and social housing projects. The story line follows the trajectory of the playwright's decades long career in the field - but it is fiction.

We visit Morrissey at three stages in his career, ages 30, 50 and 70. The setting is the Greater Toronto Area during a recent 40 year period change, a lot of change. The 'dynamics,' however, are relatively constant. Transparency and inclusion are mandatory requisites. Good people and bad people, the lazy, stupid, smart, greedy, dedicated, hopeless, devious and talented are invited by legislation to participate in the process in the wonderful expectation of consensus to approve applications for assisted and social housing projects. The process is played on a public stage - real people, real applications and, so it seams, virtual basins for the washing of hands. Reputations and careers are made, applauded and wrecked. Notwithstanding the obvious... the consequences are found sleeping on the streets. I hope the play finds a home with you.
