Bar Kapra the Squirrel Hunter by Joseph Shragge

In the remote woods, three hunters have been working for years to rid the forest of squirrels. Their jobs are simple: Bar Kapra leads the hunt, Bat Kapra trails behind putting the dead squirrels into bags, and Trout disposes of the bags. One day, a fight breaks out; Bar Kapra shoots Bat Kapra and flees. Trout discovers Bat Kapra lying in a grove and takes her home to convalesce, unwittingly getting caught up in Bat Kapra’s plan for revenge. Trout is young, naïve, synaesthetic, and reluctant to fire a rifle, making Bat Kapra’s job of training her to hunt down Bar Kapra comically difficult. The final scene takes place in winter on a snowy mountain where the three characters are faced with the choice between revenge or reconciliation.
