When Canadian slavery abolitionist William King went to Louisiana in the 1830s to educate slave owners about the evil of their ways, he never dreamed that he would inherit a dozen slaves of his own. Unable to free them in Louisiana, he set out on a dangerous quest with them to found a have for fugitive slaves in Canada. Based on the true story of King and the Buxton Settlement.
